All work and no play…

…makes Kelly excited for her paycheck 😉

It’s been a busy last few days so get ready for a big post of eats.  I have been working quite a bit – it’s wedding season, prom season, and bar mitzvah season (? ha).  I’ve been trying to take on as many shifts as possible to make a little dough but my job is so physically demanding – i’ve been sore for a week! Just out of curiosity I wore my Polar f4 to work the other day and in one shift I burned 1200 calories! And that was an easy night; I only worked 5 hours instead of 8!. ay-yi-yi! I guess it’s a good thing for a bit considering I ate nachos, french fries and ice cream everyday was not at optimal last semester. I’ll have to post a picture of me in my tuxedo and suspenders sometime soon.

Here’s a recap of some food. I haven’t been able to post dinner pictures because I usually eat “staff meal” at work and we’re not allowed to take pictures of the food since most of recipes are copyrighted.  If you want to get a glimpse of some of the amazing culinary work the kitchen does…check it out. http://www.abigailkirsch.com/culinary/culinary-shots.htm

Thoughts: Have you ever reached a point in your life when you knew that you were “growing up?” I know that this summer is going to be such a period of transition. I’m working to grow more self-confident and excited about my future.  I’ve spent the last twenty years of my life putting other people first and I’ve almost dug myself into a hole. I’m finally putting my needs and wants before others, just for a little bit, until I feel okay about where my life is going. I am so blessed to have such a wonder family and group of girlfriends in my life to help me through tough times.  I will be entering into my final year of college legless. No, not literally…My two best friends at school – the people I hung out with, relied on, laughed with – will not be returning in the fall.  My best girl friend, Sherrie, will be returning home to Colorado to go to nursing school and my best boy friend (and ex-boyfriend 😦 whole other story) has graduated and we are taking some time apart.  I feel like the wind was swept out from underneath me. But I am strong and I’m going to be okay.

Fun history fact:According to the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, Shakespeare wrote about one-tenth of the most quotable quotations ever written or spoken in English.  Way to go, Billy!
Hope you’re all having the same wonderful weather that we’re getting in New York. Off to go outlet shopping with mom!

Who else is watching the bachelorette?

…I am so jealous of Jillian! Did you see those guys.

Breathe and blog, Kelly.

Anyway, today was a wonderful day for me! I hope that you all had a nice day as well.  After breakfast I took a walk into my town (15-20 minutes) and grabbed a cup of Joe from the local coffee shop.  While drinking I read a bit of my book “The Original Knickerbocker, The Life of Washington Irving”

Sounds like a thriller, no?? Well, you’ll be seeing a lot of boring historically based books on the blog because I am preparing to write my senior thesis in the fall.  It will be about 50 pages of research on a topic of my choice…I am choosing to write on Washington Irving because he inspired so much local history in my area.  This summer I have to read about 500 pages a week…fun.

Around noon my best friend Kerry picked me up and we met some friends at the mall for a little shopping. Check out my good finds

Food 033

Some stunner shades for $10!

Food 034

A shirt from Anthropologie (<3) originally $80 but I got it for $20 🙂

Look at the pretty lacing…

Food 035

On the topic of food. Here’s my eats…

Around noon I had a (second) cup of coffee with splenda and whole milk

At two my friends and I parked it for lunch. Iate

  • 1 6-piece sushi veggie roll …I love the texture of sushi but i hate fish. go figure
  • 1 small side salad (lettuce, cukes, tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette)
  • 1 small Yogino with kiwi and carob chips

Sorry I forgot my camera :-/

I cooked dinner around 6:00 for the fam

Food 031

All together, now!

The ingredients: Onions, sun-dried tomatoes, white cooking wine, evoo, chicken, mozz. cheese, steamed asparagus and broccoli, leftover garlic mashed potatoes.

Verdict: Eh, I’ve made better. But it was healthy, eh After I digested I may or may not have had two dark chocolate truffles. Sue me. Around 8 I hit the gym…

Average heart rate: 150 bpm

Total Workout time: 1 hr 5 minutes

Kcals burned: 650 (bye bye truffles)

I kinda jumped around at the gym tonight…little bit of biking, stair climber, elliptical, weight lifting. I plan on starting up some new summer classes later on in the week.  I am thinking of beginning spin and yoga.  Any pointers for beginners??

The rest of the night includes blog reading, book reading, and the bachelorette

Funny history fact for the night: Walt Disney was terrified of mice…(hope he didn’t set up a Mickey/Minnie traps in Cinderella’s castle!)

Have great night

monday monday

Work last night was torture tough! My shift keeps me on the go for eight hours straight…we are usually able to sit for two 5 minute breaks. I still love it 🙂 What’s not to love – I wear a tuxedo, listen to great music, serve culinary artwork, and get to see happy people every single night.  Last night’s couple met on jewishamericansingles.com. How cute is that?? The groom gave the most adorable speech last night…

“….The first thing I told my mom when she asked how Abbey and I were going to plan the wedding was that I wanted all of her dreams to come true, little did I know that meant all of mine would come true as well” and he started crying. Oh! It was so cute.

Working such crazy hours really poses a conflict for my eating schedule…I like to try to eat as much as I can before I leave for work so I am not tempted by any of the naughty food there.

Therefore – Dinner was around 3:30 pm (right before I left the house)

Food 025

1 can of Trader Joe’s Lentil and Vegetable soup with a few piece of last night’s steak thrown in for extra protein.

My muscles are always tired and sore after work and since I haven’t been catering at school, I figured some extra protein would be a good idea.

Hey Folks!

What’s up blog world? I have been stalking reading your blogs for about a year now and I’m finally ready to start my own.  I tried blogging at the beginning of the year but a 20 credit college course load and a job just made blogging too stressful.  Now that it’s summertime and the living is easy, I finally have the time I need to do it up right 🙂 I guess I should start off with a ‘lil info about myself..

So, ok, I’ll admit something right off the bat.  I used to go to leadership camp when I was in high school because I was a nerd. Because I got such quality (ha!) training, I figured an ice breaker activity might be the best way to let ya’ll know who I be am.

blog

Welcome to my blog :0)
  1. If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get? Oatmeal!! It’s an obsession of mine you’ll see as I start blogging
  2. If you were an animal, what would you be and why? A peshetarian Bear (because I don’t eat fish, yuck)  …They sleep all the time, they’re adorable, and they know whats up,
  3. What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime? Open an ice cream shoppe
  4. When you were little, who was your favorite super hero and why? My American Girl Doll, Samantha because she always seemed to save the day (spiderman who?)
  5. Who is your hero? (a parent, a celebrity, an influential person in one’s life) My older sister, Megan – she is the absolute best role model.
  6. What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer? Hike and go for ice cream with  my friends
  7. If you were an ice cream flavor, which one would you be and why? I would be the “Mail Street Special” from my local ice cream shoppe. It’s coffee ice cream with big chocolate chunks and marshmallows swirled in (HOLY YUM).  I would be this ice cream because I’m energetic (like coffee!), I’m a chocoholic, and I’m fun (who can argue that marshmallows aren’t fun?)
  8. What’s your favorite cartoon character, and why? Charlie Brown, poor little guy. He’s just so cute.
  9. If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why? I’m dying to go to Austrailia and go sky diving, but I would honestly go anywhere and everywhere if I could!
  10. What’s the ideal dream job for you? To be the next Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel
  11. Are you a morning or night person? Morning!
  12. What are your favorite hobbies? Going to history museums, reading blogs, journaling, hiking, trying new foods
  13. What are your pet peeves or interesting things about you that you dislike? Debbie Downers, One-Uppers, and unnessecary rudeness
  14. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Blutwurst. I studied abroad in Germany last summer. Blutwurst is sausage without any of the blood drained out…ugggh, I don’t want to think about it anymore. Next question.
  15. Name one of your favorite things about someone in your family. My dad is a police chief 🙂
  16. Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours. I always carry a hanky and I can chirp like a baby bird
  17. If you had to describe yourself using three words, it would be…Smiley, Gracious, Sarcastic
  18. If someone made a movie of your life would it be a drama, a comedy, a romantic-comedy, action film, or science fiction?  I’d be the best friend side-kick in a romantic comedy
  19. If I could be anybody besides myself, I would be…Queen of England!!

Other facts about me

  • I am aspiring high school history teacher
  • I am gluten intolerant, and I try to avoid it at all costs. I find that it does not restrict my diet that much -hence – “Aint nothing but a G thing”
  • I live in New York but go to school in Washington, DC
  • I will be the Maid of Honor in TWO weddings next summer…yikes
  • I love going for long walks and trying new types of exercises
  • I’m obsessed with my yellow lab Bailey
  • I’m a wedding caterer …so fun. I basically do the Cha-Cha slide every time a work. Not too shabby, eh??

Becaue I am a college student, I like simple, fast and inexpensive food! Since reading your blogs I have tried to expand my taste buds without deflating my wallet. Here’s a look at what I’ve eaten so far today…:-)

Note: I went for a 3-mile run yesterday and worked a grueling ten hour shift (I sat down once!) so I woke up ready to eat a small child very hungry!

What a better way to enter into the blog world than with a GREEN MONSTER!

Food 022

That’s my sister in the background – she doesn’t approve of the monster. Isn’t she going to make a gorgeous bride? haha

My 7AM Monster included

* Huge handful of spinach, 1 tbsp flax seed, 1/2 cup almond breeze, splash of water, blackberries, strawberries (I think the blackberries took away from the green..)

Food 024

Around ten I had some oatmeal with a whopping tsp of Trader Joe’s crunchy pb with more blackberries and some crack coffee with splenda and milk

I have to work today at three o’clock so I try to do the majority of my eating (haha) before work because most of the things I can snack on at work are not-gluten free or sinfully fattening (flashback to the bites of Dark Chocolate Raspberry Ganache dessert I tried last night!)

At noon I was…still hungry…so I have 2 Van’s Gluten Free Waffles with a pat of butter and organic maple syrup

Foodblog 013

I would definately recommend this GF product…they are so light as compared to many GF products which can be extremely dense.
Food 023

YUM…

I have to go run some errands and get to work; I will update tonight with a recap of the rest of the day’s eats.

Because I am such a history nerd, I plan on ending my posts with fun(ny) history facts for you guys.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY 🙂 I look forward to reading your comments and keeping up on your blogs.

The oldest piece of chewing gum is 9000 years old (probably Extra, right?)
